New 2ndXI captain Martin Coyne was in an extremely positive mood when asked about his thoughts on the 2017 season.

Speaking to the club website captain Coyne said "I'm very excited about our chances this season. We've got a great mix of young and old throughout the squad and the competition for places is very healthy this season."

Cheshire youth stars James Chew and Luke Young have both joined the club for the 2017 season. Chew a very talented slow left arm has joined from local club Compstall with Young who is the brother of Elliot Young recently made the switch from Hawk Green. Luke offers a little bit of everything and is set to open the batting for the 2ndXI, he can also bowl slow left arm and is a very useful wicket keeper. Speaking about the latest additions Coyne said "it fantastic news that both lads have joined us, they've been netting with us throughout the winter and have really impressed. Their attitude and desire to become better players is top notch. I can see them both pushing the 1's sooner rather than later and to be honest we have a few young lads who are knocking on the door."

The 2ndXI start their season at home to Upton on Saturday 22nd April but before then a HydeXI will take on Timperley (April 8th) and Romiley (April 15th), both pre season games are at home.

Winter nets are still running at Total cricket in Ashton every Monday evening, 7.30 - 9. We only have four more sessions left so if you haven't attended yet please make every effort you can.
