Hyde CSC Squash 1 3-2 Liverpool CC Squash 1

Hyde CSC Squash 1 got their season up and running with a win in the their third game of the season, beating Liverpool CC Squash 1 by three matches to two.

Julian Tomlinson 3 11-8 11-9 12-14 11-3 1 Harry Falconer
Josh Taylor 3 11-7 9-11 11-6 11-3 1 Hamish Falconer
Fergus Richards 3 11-5 11-3 11-3 1 Luke Mercer
Steve Gregory 0 10-12 6-11 7-11 1 Peter Dickinson
Steve White 2 9-11 11-7 11-6 10-12 6-11 3 Robbie Fortune

Steve Gregory was on first against Peter Dickinson. A close first game which could have gone either way but Dickinson came out on top and his consistent length and cool touch at the front of the court saw him take the next games reasonably comfortably.
Next on was Steve White against the unorthodox Robbie Fortune. Steve had good chances to win the first game building a healthy lead but tellingly Fortune fought back well to take it. Steve controlled the next two taking them comfortably and with match ball in the fourth looked like he would get his first win but again Fortune came back to win it and then take the fifth to win the match.
Josh Taylor pulled one back for Hyde, beating Hamish Falconer 3-1. The first 3 games were tightly contested but the relentless pace and early volleying from Josh had tired Hamish Falconer out by the fourth with Josh taking it 11-3.
Fourth was Fergus Richards making his début for Hyde. He was up against Luke Mercer who had won his first two games of the season. Fergus showed just why he was the Scottish under 19 number 1 with some excellent squash controlling the game from the first rally and taking the match 3-0 meaning the overall team score was two all going in to the fifth and deciding game between Julian Tomlinson and Harry Falconer.
This was an intense game with some extraordinary rallies, both players playing their part i the game of the season so far. the first three games were nip and tuck with Julian managing to close out two of them. By the time they started the fourth game the epic rallies had started to take their toll on Harry Falconer and Julian came through to take it and win his match 3-1 and in doing so gave Hyde their first win of the season.

An excellent night of squash was enjoyed by another packed balcony up at Hyde and the team will be hoping for another good result when they travel to Rochdale CC next week.
