Hyde CSC Squash 1st Team 4 - 1 Warrington 1st Team

Hyde CSC Squash 1st team got back to winning ways on Tuesday night to lift themselves back out of the relegation zone. Fine wins for Josh Taylor, Steve Gregory, Steve White and debutant Jack Alcock saw them to a good 4-1 victory over Warrington 1st team.

Hyde CSC 1st Team 1 2 3 4 5 Warrington 1st Team

Julian Tomlinson 0 6-11 5-11 2-11 3 Joel Makin
Josh Taylor 3 11-7 10-12 11-4 11-9 1 Matt Godson
Jack Alcock 3 11-5 11-6 11-8 0 Preshin Manmindmar
Steve Gregory 3 11-6 11-6 11-7 0 James Connor
Steve White 3 11-6 2-11 3-11 11-8 11-4 2 Nat Fairhurst

Steve White got the night going with a hard earned win over up and coming junior Nat Fairhurst. Steve took the first game but then lost the next two by large margins and found himself 8-3 down in the fourth before he found renewed control in the game and proceeded to win the next 8 points on the run to make it 2-2. Steve continued to control the game in the decider and took it 11-4 to complete a remarkable come back and give Hyde the early advantage.

Jack Alcock, in his first appearance for Hyde, played with speed and skill to overcome Warrigton’s own debutant Preshin Manmindmar 3-0. Jack’s speed to the front on the court and control of the T was too much for Preshin, who by the end of the third game was making more and more unforced errors. A good debut for Jack, giving Hyde a 2-0 lead.

Julian Tomlinson returned to the side having just stepped off the plane from Malaysia where he has been playing in tournaments. He was up against the world number 105 Joel Makin. Julian’s relentless retrieving was matched by Joel and although he was always in the rallies Julian was rarely in control of the match. Joel running out a comfortable 3-0 winner to keep the match alive at 2-1.

Josh Taylor went on court to try and clinch the match playing against Matt Godson, which he duly did, winning 3-1. Josh had complete control in many of the rally’s but managed to keep Matt interested with a string of lose shots in the middle of the game. Unusually for Josh he managed to keep his serves in play and Matt struggled to return many of them giving Josh the telling edge and allowing him to take Hyde to a 3-1 lead.

On last was Steve Gregory against James Connor. Steve played his best squash of the season so far in beating James 3-0. His tight lengths and accurate drops being too much for James and allowed Steve to dominate the game from start to finish.

Next week sees Hyde’s first team make the first of two long trips to take on Heswall 1st team. Matches start at 7:30pm and all travelling support is welcome.
