The first match of the night was between Paul Thomas and Steve White. Despite winning the first game and looking in control Steve lost his timing and the unforced errors that had left his game towards the end of the first half of the season returned resulting in Paul winning the next three games relatively easily.

On at the same time were Ryan Atherton and Julian Tomlinson. After a successful tournament in Kiev over Christmas Julian was high in confidence but didn't have things all his own way as Ryan pushed him hard in the first and third games, Ryan taking the third. Julian, however, had worked Ryan and the long rallies took the toll and he took the fourth 8-11 to win the match 3-1.

At 1-1 the match could have gone to either team as Steve Gregory took on Tim Herron and Josh Taylor played Paul McDonald. Josh played with real control in his first game taking it easily but Paul fought back hard in the next two but didn't quite have the fitness to keep up with Josh who closed the game out 3-0.

So all eyes turned to the match between Steve Gregory and Tim Herron to see if Steve could seal the win for Hyde. In a game that swung in momentum between the two it was obvious the player who made the least errors was going to win. A hugely enjoyable game to watch went to the fifth set where Steve took control as Tim started tire and Steve took the game 11-4 to win the match 3-2 and give Hyde an unassailable 3-1 lead going in to the final match of the night between the number 1s, Taminda Gata Aura and George Parker.

Taminda's flair and touch around the front of the court troubled George at times but in truth George looked like he had another gear to go up when needed and despite a few unforced errors from him and some outrageous nicks from Taminda, George ran out a 3-1 winner which gave Hyde a very good 4-1 win.

So Hyde managed to over turn the result form the first game of the season and have set off in the second half in confident style and will hope to push on from here. Next week sees them up against title favorites the Northern who could have the world no 11 Marwan Elshorbagy and world no 34 Nafiizwan Adnan. Matches start at 7:30pm and all support is welcome.
