Hyde's Squash 1st team traveled to Liverpool Cricket Club on Tuesday to take on their 1st team, which included world number 44 Declan James. Wins for Hyde from Julian Tomlinson, Josh Taylor and Carlton Oldham saw them to a good 3-2 win and moves Hyde up to 5th in the league.

On court first for Hyde were Julian Tomlinson against Hamish Falconer and Steve White playing Matty Powell. Julian got himself involved in another war of attrition and again his relentless retrieving gave him control in the match having lost the 1st set. Julian eventually overcame his opponent, and a partisan crowd, to win 3-2 and get Hyde off to a winning start.
Steve was less successful and soon found himself 2-0 down and despite a spirited performance to win the 3rd set he couldn't quite complete the comeback eventually losing 3-1 leaving the match tied at 1-1.
Carlton Oldham was next for Hyde, up against Peter Dickinson. A controlled mature performance from the Hyde youngster saw him to an excellent 3-1 win in a tight contest giving Hyde the edge and a 2-1 lead.
On at the same time were the number one seeds, George Parker and Declan James. Another entertaining game, packed with flair and skill from both players. Declan's experience eventually making the difference as George lost 3-1 for the second week running.
So the match was tied at 2-2 with Josh Taylor looking to be the hero for Hyde against Luke Mercer in the deciding game. Josh played with real flair and was dominant throughout the game and despite Luke's aggression and the vocal support of the local fans, Josh easily won 3-0 and gave Hyde a deserved 3-2 win.
Next week Hyde are at home against Rochdale CC who will be looking for a win in the fight against relegation. Matches start at 7:30pm and all spectators are welcome.
