Hyde CC lift Cheshire Cup with convincing 58-run victory over Bollington

John Ashley

A memorable day on Werneth Low

Hyde Cricket Club were crowned Cheshire Cup champions after an impressive 58-run victory over Bollington CC at Hyde Cricket and Squash Club on Sunday, 6 September.

Batting first, Hyde posted a formidable 252 for 7 from their 40 overs, setting Bollington a challenging target of 253.

The innings was built around an excellent 78 from Luke Young, who struck four fours and four sixes from 96 balls. He received strong support from Coby Fitzsimmons, whose aggressive 58 came from just 54 deliveries, including three fours and four sixes.

There were also valuable contributions down the order, with James Chew unbeaten on 32 from 15 balls, including four sixes, while David Fitzsimmons finished 30 not out from 22 balls.

Max Harsham added a useful 27 from 29 balls as Hyde maintained a strong scoring rate throughout the innings.

Hyde's innings progressed steadily, reaching 130 before Fitzsimmons fell, and then accelerating through the latter stages to finish on 252 for 7.

Bollington made a promising start to the chase, but Hyde's bowlers and fielders gradually took control.

Cameron Smail top-scored with 49 from 73 balls, while Andrej Yaksender made 43 from 53 and Tyran Liddiard contributed a brisk 42 from only 30 balls, including eight fours.

However, wickets began to fall regularly. Hyde removed Bollington's final three wickets for just 17 runs, with the visitors eventually bowled out for 194 in 36.1 overs.

The Hyde attack shared the wickets around. Andrew Jackson took 2-43, James Chew 2-19, Luke Young 2-27 and Coby Fitzsimmons 2-30.

Match-winning performances

The victory was a genuine team effort, but Luke Young's 78 was the outstanding batting contribution, while James Chew's 32 off 15* provided a decisive late-innings boost. With the ball, James Chew's economical 2-19 was particularly influential.

Hyde's ability to finish strongly with the bat and then keep taking wickets during Bollington's chase ultimately proved the difference.
