Mrs Wembley; the passing of a legend.

Dear Members,
It is with huge regret I must announce the death of one of my oldest friends, Carole Needham, who passed away peacefully last Sunday morning.

Words are unworthy at times such as this, so, it cannot be relayed here how much She will be missed, first of all by her partner of many years Graham (Torky) Torkington, and then her immediate family and small army of friends.

As many of you will know Carole was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer in April 2018, since when she had been undergoing treatment, mainly at Christie Hospital, where she eventually succumbed last weekend.

Her bravery throughout her ordeal has been something quite outstanding, she has never waivered in her battle, nor, it must be said has Graham, who has been by her side every step of the way. He was of course at her bedside when she eventually lost consciousness and slipped from this world, her dignity intact.

Carole's life was full and varied; despite her mere 51 years on the planet she has travelled and worked all over the world. She was good with languages and spoke German and Japanese, following spells working in both countries.

At Hyde Cricket and Squash, she became a legend for her socially upbeat personality and likening of a good time. Christened "Mrs Wembley" many years ago, because of her socially gregarious style and drinking habits, which bore a resemblance to a TV character in the series ON THE UP, in the early 1990's.

No gathering was quite the same if Carole was unable to attend.
She had a sense of style and taste, enriched by her love of foriegn travel and diverse cultures, all of which brought depth and poignancy to her every conversation.
Opinionated and strident, no-one was safe from her sharp whitt and the odd scathing remark, all delivered with a delicious be-devilment, which set Carole apart.

In the end, once she knew her fate was sealed, Carole had wished for one more holiday, but sadly her illness prevented her final wish...

Graham has asked me to let you all know that her funeral will be held on Friday 13th September at HYDE CHAPEL, STARTING AT 1 PM.
Carole asked Graham to ensure that she be buried.

She also asked, no demanded, that at her wake, to be held here at HYDE CRICKET & SQUASH CLUB, there should be no black clothing and all her friends and family are to "get leathered!"

Good bye Mrs Wembley, bless you girl.

Graham hopes to see as many of you as can attend on 13 th.

Regards

John Buckley
