Hyde youngster is awarded a place in the Lancashire CCC Academy

Last week Lancashire County Cricket Club announced Rian as a Lancashire Academy player for 2025.

This is a tremendous achievement and so richly deserved.

Rian follows in the footsteps of Hyde’s Charlie Barnard and George Balderson, who both won places in the County's Academy, before progressing into the current first team squad, something all young cricketers aspire to.

2024 was a break through season for young Rian, who doesn’t turn 17 until July.
As our number 3 batter, he scored 679 runs at 45.
His rise to prominence has been so pleasing for our members, many of whom will remember him as a tiny young boy, aged 5.
Even then displaying a strikingly orthodox technique and well organised approach.
Although at times he was somewhat hindered by conditions, especially our damp climate which made it difficult for him to get real power and timing into his stroke play, it was obvious to most onlookers that Rian would develop into a serious player.

So it proved as he rose through our 4th , 3rd and second teams, to his key role in what is a very strong batting line up in our first team, where he has done what all young players must do at some stage, and taken his chance.
Last season, as early as the very first game, v Oxton, he made a crucial half century in difficult circumstances and from there didn’t look back.
A quick check of his season stats, shows he made an amazing 1632 runs in club and representative cricket.

As well as the support of Hyde CC, Rian has been helped by some excellent coaches such as Dave Leighton and Steve Parry, and, has been a pathway player with Lancashire, since Under 10s.
Last summer Rian made his career best score of 200, whilst playing for Lancs Under 18s. In some ways it was a typical innings in which he displayed some of his strongest attributes - patience, focus and great powers of concentration.

Rian is a fantastic young man.
Extremely modest, but of strong character and steely determination.

All his friends at Hyde look forwards with keen anticipation.

Good luck Rian.
