TED BOWDEN

TED BOWDEN

John Buckley31 Aug - 10:10

Tribute by Ted's son Warren...

We are sorry to announce that Ted Bowden, long time supporter of Hyde Cricket Club, passed away on Thursday 28th August.
Cricket and Hyde in particular were Teds great love.
From the early 1970’s Ted could be found circling the boundary debating the game and many other subjects with everyone and anyone he came across whilst at the same time not fearing to register his opinions with both players and umpires!
Ted was on many committees over the time and laid claim to a number of achievements for the club including the signing in 1981 of the New Zealand opening batsman Bruce Edgar who he wrote to personally inviting him to come to Hyde via the Sydney Cricket Ground where Bruce was due to play.

Following his retirement Ted led a number of junior teams and was known amongst the boys for being fiercely competitive. Nothing made him more proud than to see them progress through the ranks.
Many a time I heard him say – “He was in my junior team” when a first team player came out to bat.
His long service at Hyde CC was acknowledged in 2018, when he was invited by then Mayor of Tameside, to a brief celebration at her offices in Dukinfield town hall. Ted is pictured above with the Mayor and his old friend Howard Kerr.

In recent years Ted took great pride in bringing his grandson to watch the cricket and has been thrilled that he has also become a cricketer (albeit for Whalley Range).

Ted you will be missed by everyone at the club and the boundary will not be quite the same without you.
