The Great British Cheese Company is a family business built on market roots, proper graft and a love for excellent cheese.
From indoor markets and family-run stalls to events, wholesale customers, online cheese gifts and our own range of bold British cheese, our story has always been about good people, honest service and cheese with real flavour.
Where it all started
Our story starts with Keith, who began working in an indoor market at just 13 years old. From there, he went on to run his own market stall in Stockport, learning the trade the proper way: face to face with customers.
He listened to what people loved, understood what made them come back week after week, and learned that good food businesses are built on trust, quality and consistency.
It was on the markets that Keith realised there was a real demand for excellent cheese. Not bland, forgettable cheese, but proper cheese full of flavour, quality and character.
Market roots
Keith built his early experience on the markets, serving customers directly and learning what people really wanted from a cheese business.
The deli years
His passion for excellent cheese led him to open a deli, where he could share more of the products he believed in and continue building relationships with customers.
Back to events
But the markets never left him. Keith wanted to go back to his roots and take excellent cheese to people across the UK.
2014 in York
In 2014, The Great British Cheese Company began at an event in York, starting from a small stall and a simple idea: bring bold, brilliant cheese to people who love real flavour.
