After dropping into second after a losing draw against Upton, Hyde went to Urmston looking to bounce back quickly.

An overcast sky and a wicket with a distinct green tinge seemed to make it ideal for bowlers. Berry agreed and chose to bowl after winning the toss.

Hyde struck early on, with Wightman, fresh from bowling at England and Pakistan mid-week, catching the outside edge of Urmston’s captain. From there both he and leading wicket taker Whittaker struggled to break up Thomas and Barlow, who was throwing the bat at the ball indiscriminately. Barlow quickly moved to 50, despite drops from the usually safe hands of both Duffy and Berry, including a big six that thumped the roof of the scorebox. The pair had added 77 for the second wicket when Cranmer finally managed to separate them, bowling Thomas for 10. Barlow departed 4 overs later when he played one shot too many and managed to pick out Partridge off the bowling of Cranmer. Jackson was walking back to the pavilion 3 balls later, when Young managed to find his leading edge back to him at full stretch. Grindley and Chris Turner put up some stubborn resistance, seeing off 12 overs together. However, the scoring was slow and Young soon had his second victim, with Duffy holding onto a catch from Grindley, 128/5. Familiar face Josh Edwards was the new man at the crease, and he had added 3 when he flashed at Young, only succeeding to chip it to Duffy. Buckley joined the seemingly immovable Chris Turner, but not for long as Cranmer took all the pace off a delivery, he picked out Partridge once more. From there, the innings ended quickly. Cole Turner departed for a duck, when Cranmer rapped his pad, the umpires finger was up before Cranmer could even get into his appeal. The next over, Chris Turner finally fell, trying to go big only to pick out peacock off of Young’s bowling. Young completed his first Hyde 5fer 3 balls later, when Nathan Turner chipped it straight to Fisher, Urmston finishing 151 all out.

Berry and Partridge opened Hyde’s innings, and the Captain flew out of the blocks, speeding to 11 at over a run a ball. It was the former Hyde player Edwards that got his wicket, when Berry chipped him to Barlow at cover. Fisher joined Partridge in the middle, and the pair of them were quickly tied down by Edwards and Cole Turner. Fisher would be the next to go, also chipping up Edwards, this time to Jackson at mid-wicket. Partridge would be Edwards third victim, mirroring the first two, with another chip held by Thomas, leaving Hyde 41/3. Duffy and Young saw out the remaining overs, dominating the bowlers. Duffy went past 50, continuing his good form, pushing Hyde to near the target score. Young would also reach the milestone, topping off an incredible day for him, and the pair breezed past the target 154/3.

Looking at the pitch and weather conditions, it would have been perfect for Whittaker, but for Hyde’s spinners to dominate the way they did was a massive surprise. Hyde remain unbeaten in the league, and will be looking to extend that run when we host Macclesfield next weekend
